What is an ice dam in roofing?
Answered By Rae Fakner, Editor
An ice dam is a wall or rim of ice that forms
on the edges of a roof. The ice dam prevents
water that has melted from draining off the
roof. This pooled water can cause the roof to
rot or let the water seep in to the house.
This leak can cause water damages to the roof
itself and the walls, insulation and ceiling
of the house.
